The importance of the discoveries and shipments of high grade ore from the Lincoln mine, three-fourths of a mile west of Gillett, cannot be too strongly dwelt upon. THE TIMES representative made a special trip to the mine yesterday to ascertain the facts.
The Lincoln has been frequently mentioned in two line paragraphs in various papers of late, but this mine, far removed from the thicket of shaft houses such as are on Bull hill, Gold hill, and Battle mountain, has been looked upon as a doubtful quantity.
During a period of idleness caused by the owners not being able to agree on a plan for conducting their business the Lincoln took the place in the public mind as an abandoned prospect in the granite where there could be no ore.
One needs only to visit the spot now to be convinced that there are strong veins carrying the richest of gold in the despised granite where the hills are only gentle rounded knols, and the quaking asp grows the thickest.

The Lincoln mine is at least two miles north in a direct line from Bull hill. There is immense phorphyry dyke that cuts through the country almost due north and south and has been traced several miles north of Bull hill.
The dyke itself has so far proved barren, but there is a net work of veins in the granite on either side of the dyke and it is these that are now being prospected for and are beginning to show good values.
The Lincoln is at the intersection of two granite leads about 300 feet off from the porphyry dyke. The total depth of the shaft is now about 100 feet and a drift at the seventy-five-foot level is producing the ore now being shipped.
The vein is from three to four feet wide and the rock in the vein looks like "hard times" granite; but it brings returns and illustrates the oft-repeated saying since Cripple Creek has been discovered that "gold is where you find it".
In another drift at the seventy-five-foot level a new vein was encountered yesterday. It had been opened about four feet yesterday, and was all in ore.

The Lincoln is held and operated by the individual owners and is not in a stock company. The ore is sacked and a carload will be shipped today. The ore averages better than $100 to the ton and a streak in the vein runs as high as $500.
The importance of this mine coming in as a shipper is unusually great, as it practically demonstrates that there is a rich field to be opened up from Bull hill north for several miles.
Dargin and Son are the principal owners of the mine.

'Round About Gillett.
The New Mines that Have Put New Life Into Gillett.
High grade ore and sylvanite ore is found nearer the surface near Gillett than in any other part of the Cripple Creek district. Visitors should not fail to see the mines and prospects in this part of the camp. A characteristic of all the veins in the granite is that they improve in richness with depth and this is one of the big inducements to purchasers.
The Lincoln will ship another car of high grade ore tomorrow. Three veins have been opened on the Lincoln, all good ore.

Lincoln.
This property, near Gillette, has again begun work, and a small cyanide plant may be erected to treat the ore which is low grade. No ore of any amount has been shipped of late.
The Gillett section has not been proven a good mineral district, but quite a little prospecting in a quiet way is now going on.

Lincoln.—A strike of rich ore is reported in this property, near the town of Gillett, but so far has not been verified. Some years ago a little pay ore was shipped, but no ore in paying quantities has been found since.

Lincoln.—The shaft house on this property, near Gillett, has been destroyed by fire. A little ore was shipped from the property in the early day of the camp, and the present showing is reported looking well. It is not known what effect the burning of the shaft house will have.

The Lincoln, near Gillett, it is reported, will build a small cyanide mill. The treatment of the low-grade oxidized ore about the district is watched with interest.

The machinery is being placed in the new cyanide mill near Gillett, and it is understood that the mill will soon be ready to handle ore from the district and also from mines in the vicinity of Gillett.
A railroad spur is being graded from the Lincoln mine to the mill.
