      General notes:
Mine name seems to come from company name, but, it is confusing as the location on the 1903 USGS map of the mine, places it when looking at the Plat Maps of the company ground on ground belonging to the Sunny Side lode, but the USGS 1906 report indicates Protection lode and the Plat Map of the Protection Lode has a Shaft House drawn in about the location of the Mariposa on the 1903 USGS map. Either way, that ground was part of another mine company and not the ground stated to be part of the Mariposa Co.
graphic for visual presentation of text In Hill's 1900 Manual it is also written as the claims are worked through another shaft not marked on the USGS map, but on the 1906 USGS Report Underground map those are named differently and the whole mine is a confusing mess. I assume the mine marked as Mariposa was located on leased ground on the Synny Side lode, which makes most sense. The same 1906 USGS report has only a mention of a Mariposa, in terms of using the word Shaft after the name, so no help in getting better info there.
