Info Title:
Abe Lincoln Developing Better Than Ever After January 1 Fire
The Abe Lincoln mine in Poverty gulch is developing better than it has been at any time since the fire that destroyed the shaft-house on the night of Jan. 1. Five machines are at work breaking ore of good grade from the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh, and two machines are engaged in driving cross-cuts southwest on the 700-ft. level.
graphic for visual presentation of text A good vein of ore showing sylvanite has been encountered in a winze sunk from the 7th level to a depth of 100 ft., but at that point water has handicapped operations. A new spray washer with a capacity of 100 tons daily has recently been installed, and all of the coarse rock is being run through. The slimes, which have heretofore been wasted, have added considerably to the gold output of the property.
graphic for visual presentation of text An elevating tram has also been completed, which lifts the waste from the washer to a point about 40 ft above the old dump level, which obviates the difficulty before experienced in obtaining dump-room. All of the four sets of lessees on the property are reported as being in ore of good grade, and the mine is producing a car of smelting grade ore a day.

graphic for visual presentation of text
graphic for visual presentation of text This is one of the oldest producing properties in the Cripple Creek district, having been opened up more than ten years ago. It was one of the great original advertisers of the famous camp as a gold producer, but later was allowed to lie idle several years, until the late W. S. Stratton added it to his already large estate, to which it still belongs.
graphic for visual presentation of text The output at this time amounts to thirty tons a day of an exceptionally good grade of ore, which yields a large profit to the lessees.
graphic for visual presentation of text Of the leasing company operating the property C. Conger is president, Milton Smith is vice president and U. S. Hollister is treasurer.
graphic for visual presentation of text The main shaft is 700 feet deep, and ore is being mined from the third and other levels. Forty men are employed in taking it out, and regular monthly shipments of large value have been made during the whole period of nineteen months the operations have been conducted by the present management.
