Info Title:
Union Company Change Their Working Shaft
UNION.—This mine, on Bull Hill, is the largest employer of labor there, it giving work to 120 men. This mine, in the hands of an efficient board of directors, who would discard the "penny wise and pound foolish" policy, would soon rank among the first on Bull Hill.
graphic for visual presentation of text The policy of the present board has been to distribute every cent in the treasury as dividends and let the mine take its chance instead of putting the mine in good shape, sinking a new working shaft in the middle of their ground (900 ft. on the vein), equipped with the best of machinery, and opening up the mine in a miner-like manner, as the present manager, who is competent, should insist on.
graphic for visual presentation of text The present working shaft, sunk by lessees, is on the extreme south end of their property, and has been sunk to a depth of 440 ft., the vein being 9 ft. wide. The ore shoots, six in number, are now well developed, and the veins are so nearly vertical that cross-cutting from a straight shaft would be inexpensive.
graphic for visual presentation of text The stockholders should insist that the mine be immediately put into condition to double the output at the same cost, and dividends be paid as regularly as at the Victor and Buena Vista.

Union Gold Mining Co. Inquiry
Union and Colorado Mining Stocks.
graphic for visual presentation of text 4718. (Schenectady, N. Y.) Please inform me regarding what you think of the Union gold mines as an investment? What gold mine stock do you consider the best for an investment? What is a good low priced stock for a speculation?
graphic for visual presentation of text
graphic for visual presentation of text Ans.: The Union Gold Mining Company owns 35 acres of patented ground on Bull Hill, which has produced $950,000 and paid over $84,000 in dividends. The entire property is being worked under lease at royalties ranging from 30 to 50 per cent. The company is capitalized at 1,250,000 $1 shares. The stock is very favorably regarded in Colorado, and was quoted at about 44c. on January 19.
graphic for visual presentation of text It would be invidious to single out one particular gold stock as the best for an investment, but, among others, may be mentioned Elkton, Isabella, Portland, Vindicator, Gold Coin, etc. The same remark applies as to a good low-priced stock for a speculation, as there are a number of about equal merit, on the best selection from which probably no two equally well informed persons would exactly agree.
