I think this view past the Findley Mine is one great image as it sort of capture the District, as in front lower left you have houses and habitats for humans, you even see at least one outhouse for the toilet need! Then you have the dumps and structures of the reason for the humans to be there, the mining operations footprint so to speak, with many smaller dumps where each mark a mining hole that was someone's dream and hope for a better life, and then you have the large dumps like the Findley one from mines that was in gold and at least impacted some people's life for the better!
In background against the sky you see the various dumps and mine structures making up the area around the former town of Altman, still seems to be some structures left of the town up there, and on the slope down towards the photographer there are these smaller log-cabins and homes of miners, among the mining dumps and Gallows-frames and other needed mining structures making up this photo.
I did procure the colored version of this image, as I think it is nicer. Source is gray-toned, or in common speech black & white. Used an online service and tweaked and worked with image to get what looks best to my eyes for the moment. The Findley Mine

        General notes:
This ID 216 mark is named Findley on the 1903ish USGS topomap Map Legend, a legend which appears on the left side of the map BTW. I however have corrected that name as it is an erroneous name for any Shafts that is a possible logical match to that printed ID number location!
graphic for visual presentation of text -> Reasoning is that the Shaft above the digit 6-part of the ID-216 is located at northeast end of the Mountain Beaty Lode claim, and the Shaft below the 21-part of the printed number is located on the Lucky Guss Lode claim.
graphic for visual presentation of text Being printed where the ID is, I decided to link that number to the Shaft north of the number, as that Shaft is also found on the 1906ish USGS Principal Underground Workings map where it is being named Mt. Beaty, whereas I call it Mount Beauty Shaft northeast, and the ID-217 will be renamed Findley as that number is more logical to that mine!
graphic for visual presentation of text -> This ID-216 Shaft appears on some images, before a large dump was filling in the area from the Findley; I seen it appear with a Gallows/Head-Frame, and in other images only as a dump (like a 1909 issued Postcard view by H. & H. Studio), before it is covered by the larger Findley fill in later years.
graphic for visual presentation of text I cannot live with the erroneous USGS naming on the topomap, as it places a well-known mine, as the Findley is, at the wrong location! Hence, I changed this and will also rename the ID-217 to become the Findley and not the name the topomap legend gave it! After all, it is my copy of the map, shared on my website, I can put the ID pin wherever I want and name it accordingly! If you disagree, prove me wrong with some map(s) please. :-)
