Longfellow Did Lateral Work
That the late Mr. Stratton had abundant faith in the future and believed in deep mining was evidenced by the amount of work he did on Bull and other hills.
An example is that in the Longfellow shafts considerable lateral work was done.

Longfellow Discovery
Rich discoveries have been made on the Longfellow mines of the Stratton estate on Bull hill. The discovery was made by winze from the 500-ft. level of the Llewellyn shaft on the Longfellow. This property is operated by the Excelsior M. L. & E. Co. of Denver, under long lease. The ore shipped is returning 5 oz. per ton.

Longfellow Mine Shipments to Golden Cycle Mill
The Excelsior company, operating the Longfellows of the Stratton estate, is mining a high average grade of ore between the fifth and sixth levels. During March, nearly 200 tons sent to the Golden Cycle mill, mined from a vein 10 ft. wide, assayed better than 5 oz. gold per ton, the last settlement being $74.40.
