Eagle Sampler Record Exemplify Surge in District Activities
A record has been made by the Eagle sampler, which shows that great activity is prevalent in the Cripple Creek district. During January 21,100 tons of ore were sampled, and now the tonnage is largely increased. In one day of two 9½ hr. shifts the plant sampled 1052.5 tons, which constitutes a record.
graphic for visual presentation of text The ore is going to the mills at Colorado City and Florence. The Golden Cycle mine alone is shipping 200 tons per day. The reason for this activity is the reduction in rates charged by the United States R. & R. Co., which charges only $3.50 per ton for ores of $8 or less.

Cripple Creek District Up to Date; Snapshot Samplers Nov. 2, 1904

Colorado Springs, Nov. 2. Daily shipments are being maintained from the district at such a rate as was never before known in the history of the camp. The month of October is going to crowd the banner month of September with a nearly 25 per cent. increase.

As an illustration, the following table shows the ore received to-day by the different samplers of the district:

Sampler Tonnage
Taylor & BrantonBrunton 600 tons
Eagle Sampler 300 tons
Rio Grande 275 tons
Cripple Creek 250 tons

Making a total of 1425 tons for the day.

The above, with that sent direct to the smelters, would reach the figures easily of over 2000 tons per day.

At the present time there are more men working in the district than at any time in the history of the camp, and more ore with a better valuation is being sent out every day.

Eagle Sampler Details

The Eagle Sampler.

The same automatic samplers (Vezin) are used as before, and one-fiftieth of the original is sent to the sampling floor. Here it is coned and quartered, but not reduced by this method. The coning and quartering serves simply to mix the sample.

Opposite quarters are now taken and placed together, so that from this point two separate samples are treated. These are reduced by a large set of riffles to forty-mesh each, and from this on the operation is the same as the Black and the Rio Grande.

Scheme of Sampling at the Eagle Sampler:
