Mars Consolidated Gold Mining Co. Inquiry
Mars Cons. Gold Mining Co.

6617. (Rhinebeck, N. Y.) Can you give me any information in regard to the Mars Consolidated Gold Mining Company, and as to whether the stock has any value? The certificate I hold is dated at Cripple Creek, Colo., and therefore I suppose that is, or was, the principal place of business.

Ans.: According to the latest Cripple Creek hand book (January, 1901), this company is capitalized at 1,500,000 shares, had 80,000 shares in the treasury, and was $1,400 in debt.

The secretary was E. A. Meredith, Goldfield, Colo. Goldfield is in the Cripple Creek district. The company owned the Steuben, Pulaski, Henry, Mars, McGinty and the west half of the Lone Star No. 1 claims, 13 acres in all, for which receivers' receipt had been issued. The property is situated just east of the Midland Terminal railroad depot at the town of Cripple Creek, between Bennett and Myers avenues.

Development consisted of shafts 80 and 120 feet deep. There were about 50 houses, occupied by squatters, on the property. The company has recently passed into the control of Mr. W. S. Stratton, of Colorado Springs, Colo. There is still some of the stock on the market, and its recent sales were at about four cents per share.
