Jeff Davis Leasers Refused $10,000 Offer
REFUSED $10,000 OFFER.
graphic for visual presentation of text—————————
graphic for visual presentation of text The big vein opened by the graders of the Colorado Springs short line, on the Jeff Davis claim of the Lexington, on Gold hill, is a bigger thing than was first expected.
graphic for visual presentation of text The vein is an entirely new one and of its existence nothing was ever known before, although it came almost to surface and within a distance of eight or ten feet there is a shaft, but it happens to be just far enough away to miss the vein completely. In one part of the vein a great deal of free gold was found yesterday.
graphic for visual presentation of text Yesterday the lessees of the property were made an offer of $10,000 for the lease and it was refused, for they think they have something that justifies holding and sinking on. It is without question one of the greatest low grade propositions in the camp from present indications.

Info Title:
Jeff Davis to Be Operated Again

Colorado Springs, Col., Dec. 7.—Operations are shortly to be started again on the Jeff Davis claim, which is located on the east slope of BullGold Hill and belongs to the Lexington property. Operators have opened up a number of small stringers of ore, but up to the present time have never prospected them in the direction they trend, so it is the intention of the new operators to push work in that direction, and it is believed that big ore will be opened up.

Nearly $15,000 worth of ore in a small pocket was taken out of this property near the surface, the ore having been opened when the Short Line Railroad was cutting its way through the Lexington territory.

Info Title:
Jeff Davis Ore Thanks to Short Line Railroad
The only ore ever revealed by all the railroad grading in the district was that on the Jeff Davis claim of the Lexington company that is crossed by the Short Line. The grading exposed a vein 70 feet long and a considerable amount of rich ore was mined.
graphic for visual presentation of text Lately the mine has come into prominence again by the opening of an ore shoot from four to seven feet wide that averages $25 to the ton in gold without sorting. Had it not been for the Short Line building in the district this mine would no doubt today be undeveloped.

Jeff Davis to Be Reopened
JEFF DAVIS GROUP AT CRIPPLE CREEK IS NEW OPERATION
graphic for visual presentation of text——————
graphic for visual presentation of text Cripple Creek, Colo.—The Jeff Davis mine, one of the older properties in this rich gold district, is being opened by Miller Hasselbalch & Co. of Omaha, Neb. Clarence Peterson, local representative of the company, announced last week that surface work had been practically completed. A new gallows frame and hoist house have been constructed and a gasoline hoist installed. The company has put in a portable diesel compressor. There is still work to be done on the shaft before underground operations can start.
graphic for visual presentation of text Peterson prospected the underground workings several months ago and reported favorable to the company, which then made plans to begin operations. There are several good prospects and mining will start on them within the next few days.
graphic for visual presentation of text The Jeff Davis comprises two claims and is located on Gold Hill. It has been over 30 years since it was worked, but at that time it had a good reputation as a steady producer of medium grade ore.
graphic for visual presentation of text G. E. Rinck of Omaha is secretary of the company and is making his home in Manitou Springs.
