Info Title:
Morning Glory With Good Indications of Mineral
A two days' jaunt on horseback took me from Rhyolite hill, on the north, to Grouse mountain, on the south, and from Pisgah, on the west, to Wilson creek, on the east, within which boundaries some four thousand claims have been located.
graphic for visual presentation of text The greater part of those have nothing more than the assessment work done upon them, and in many instances, this has been so indifferently done, and with such an utter abandon and disregard of the statues, that they cannot be held for a moment to comply with the legal requirements.
graphic for visual presentation of text But, in traversing Ennis, Globe, Gold, Bull, Tenderfoot, Womack, Mineral and a score or more of hills in the district, sources of Cripple, Wilson, Requa, Squaw and other water courses, I came upon scores of properties that were being developed with more or less vigor and intelligence, some with tunnels or inclines, others with shafts or open cuts, and the owners of each full of hope and expectations.
graphic for visual presentation of text Among those having already good indications of mineral was the Morning Glory lode claim on Ennis mountain.

Thomas Moaut Almost Died at Morning Glory
ESCAPED ALIVE
graphic for visual presentation of text—————————
graphic for visual presentation of textWhile Hanging but a Few Feet Above Three Blasts—Thomas Moaut's Perilous Position in the Morning Glory Shaft.
graphic for visual presentation of text An accident that nearly cost Thomas Moaut his life, happened yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock in the shaft at the Morning Glory. Three blasts were fired in the bottom of the shaft by Mr. Moaut and he faced the powder and smoke and flying rocks, and still miraculously escaped with his life.
graphic for visual presentation of text
graphic for visual presentation of text He was 100 feet below the surface, lighted the fuse and pulled the signal cord to hoist, but the cord had frozen to the walls and no warning of his peril was conveyed to the engineer.
graphic for visual presentation of text The terrified man began to climb the cable, but had not ascended but a short distance when a charge exploded and knocked him almost into insensibility. He still had life and presence of mind enough left, however, to climb into the big iron bucket which was at the bottom. Here he crouched while the two remaining blasts sent the rock flying over and about him.
graphic for visual presentation of text The noise of the blast was the only signal that reached the top and the bucket was raised with a man in the bottom and a load of rock on top of him.
graphic for visual presentation of text
graphic for visual presentation of text The boots and nearly all the clothing had been torn from his body. The injured man was brought to the city and Dr. Chambers dressed his wounds. He suffered a broken ankle and the eardrums in both ears were broken by the terrific explosions.
graphic for visual presentation of text His injuries are reported severe, but a speedy recovery is expected.
