Granite Hill Sub-Lessee Barbee in Good Vein
GRANITE HILL COMPANY.—This company owns a fractional claim in Poverty Gulch, almost, within the city limits. Recently a sub-lease of 100 ft. square was obtained by Barbee, of Silver Reef fame, Utah, who opened up a good vein. At an 8 ft. depth an average for 2 ft. wide gave $269 per ton.

There seems to be general excitement about the new find, it being a new vein, distinct from the Abe Lincoln and the Lone Star.

Granite Hill Shaft Down 20 Feet and Claim Worked Hard
GRANITE HILL.—This property, in Poverty Gulch, still attracts considerable attention, as the sub lessee has sold one ton of ore for $311.44. The vein is now in place, and the shaft has reached a depth of 20 ft. Lessees and sub-lessees — legion in number— are working on all sides to find the extension, but unsuccessfully to date, as the "wash" or "slide" is very deep in some places.

The ore is a mineralized porphyry sometimes carrying free gold in the seams. Three shifts are now employed.

Granite Hill Shaft Down 30 Feet and Working Hard
Granite Hill.—This mine, in Poverty Gulch, has a shaft sunk 30 ft. The rate of progress will be faster, as nine men are now employed. A 10-ton shipment was recently made, three tons of which sampled $412 per ton and seven tons yielded $191 per ton.

The samples of the purchasers and sellers were very close: 20-58, 20-6, 9-52 and 9-58 oz. At the depth of 27 ft. a drift was extended north 13 ft. in order to decide the course of the vein.

In spite of the prospecting surrounding this fractional claim no one has yet found the extension.

Tunnel Mining and Leasing Co. Working 4 Shafts at 3 Lodes
Colorado Springs, Nov. 16.—The Tunnel Mining and Leasing Company, operating the Abe Lincoln Mine in Poverty Gulch under lease, will commence sinking a shaft to-morrow morning another 100 feet, starting from the 600-foot point.

This company is sinking different shafts—two on the Lincoln, one on the Arcadia and one on Granite Hill. However, the four properties are being operated by three plants of machinery.

The company is treating in the neighborhood of 80 tons of dump rock each day through a huge washing machine, the greatest values showing in the slimes. Besides this treatment it sends out in the neighborhood of 30 tons of ore per day that runs about $30 to the ton.
