The large vein has been proven for a distance of 110 feet and is now being worked at a depth of 500 feet and at a point exactly one mile from the portal of the Ophelia tunnel.
After a round of shots this afternoon assays were taken from a portion of the big vein and returns were given of from $55 to $107 in gold to the ton.

Three shifts are running, as the production is being forced owing to the expiration of the lease next March, a renewal being uncertain. In the neighborhood of 75 tons per day is being shipped.

Work Co.'s Properties Being Worked The production for the first three months of 1908 from the Work Co.'s properties on Raven and Gold hills is more than $60,000. Little Clara Ore Shoot As an illustration of the possibilities in the way of discovery of new ore bodies above water level, I will mention the "Little Clara" ore shoot, belonging to the Work Mining Co. This ore shoot was discovered about two years ago and has since produced about $1,500,000. The ground was supposed to be reasonably well developed by workings done years before.
A shaft had been sunk directly over the ore body to a depth of 135 ft., and a drift near the bottom driven to within 25 ft. of the top of shoot. The Callie shaft had been sunk to the depth of 480 ft, missing the westerly edge of the ore shoot only 30 ft. to 40 ft., and the Ophelia tunnel was driven directly under it and about 40 ft. below.

Little Clara Shipments Through Ophelia Tunnel Cripple Creek—Five cars of ore averaging between $55 and $60 were sent out this week from the Little Clara property. The large, flat vein is holding out well, both in size and values, and 10 cars of ore are shipped every week from the mine.
The ore body is being worked at a point almost a mile and a half from the portal of the Ophelia tunnel, through which operations are conducted. The property is owned by the Work Mining Co. and is under lease to Harold Thompson and associates.

Little Clara mine Apex Fight Denver, Oct. 29—In the Doctor-Jack Pot suit against the Work Mining and Milling Company to recover $2,000,000 worth of ore alleged to have been extracted without right, from the Little Clara mine, the following question was put to Judge Lewis, in the United States circuit court, in a demurrer filed by the latter company:
If the owner of a mining claim fails to discover an apex vein on his property, which the owner of the adjoining claim does discover, is he barred from exercising extra-lateral rights to the vein, and has the owner of the adjoining claim the right to extract ore from it?
This question may sound like a word puzzle, but on the deciding of it hinges $2,000,000, and the settlement of a point of mining law that will have far-reaching effect.
