Independence and Colorado Mining Stocks.
4718. (Schenectady, N. Y.) Please inform me regarding what you think of the Independence gold mines as an investment? What gold mine stock do you consider the best for an investment? What is a good low priced stock for a speculation?

Ans.: The Independence Town & Mining Company is capitalized at 1,250,000 $1 shares, and owns 42 acres of patented ground, which has produced upwards of $750,000 under leasing system, the company having received upwards of $110,000 in royalties. The company is the defendant in somewhat rancorous litigation, one of the suits being now in the course of hearing in court. On January 18 the stock sold at 33c. But for such migration the stock would readily sell for upwards of $1, as it is an exceptionally rich and well equipped property.
It would be invidious to single out one particular gold stock as the best for an investment, but, among others, may be mentioned Elkton, Isabella, Portland, Vindicator, Gold Coin, etc. The same remark applies as to a good low-priced stock for a speculation, as there are a number of about equal merit, on the best selection from which probably no two equally well informed persons would exactly agree.

Cripple Creek.—The Vindicator Con. has applied for a patent on the Reindeer lode situated in the town of Independence adjoining the Hull City placer. It is understood that this ground will be utilized as a site for the mill to be built jointly by the Vindicator and Findley companies.
