A new plant of machinery and shafthouse are being put up on the west half of the Gold King, now worked under lease. The hoist is a double-friction Hendrie & Bolthoff lightning hoist, with cylinder 9x10 inches.
The shaft is 150 feet deep, and a contract for another 150 feet has been let. The claim is near the Anchoria Leland.

Gold Hill, prolific of strikes in the old days, has recently come into notoriety through several finds of importance, the last of which is the discovery of commercial mineral on the property of the Progress company.
Ore is being broken at a depth of 40 feet, at which point something like $40,000 of gold bearing rock was extracted some years ago. The ore streak is two and a half feet wide and a shipment has been made. The ore now being taken out is worth from $30 to $40 per ton.

Lessees all over the camp are doing a flourishing business. The lessees on the Progress property on Gold Hill have just made a shipment which will return them $30 per ton.

Three sets of lessees, operating through the Good Will tunnel on the properties of the Fair Chance and Progress Gold Mining Co., have found ore, and shipments will soon be made.
W. H. Klotz and C. B. Clough are leasing on the Ellen McGregor and extracting ore from a vein 2½ ft. wide.
Farther to the east, at about 1500 ft from the portal, S. J. Schenck is leasing on part of the Gold King, owned by the Progress Gold Mining Co. Strong veins of low-grade ore occur, and the lessees expect to be able to stope this above the adit level and ship it at a profit.

The C. K. & N. shaft, which is over 800 ft. deep, has been completely drained through the C. K. & N. water course. The Mary McKinney, Index and Gold King have been especially benefited by this.
